On the morning of May 20, local time, Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema visited the Batoka-Maamba 88Km road project constructed by China Geo-engineering Corporation.
President Hichilema personally inspected the road and bridge construction sites and received a briefing on the project's organization and progress. He expressed satisfaction with the advancements made and commended the company's localization efforts, particularly their provision of employment opportunities to local enterprises and residents. The President emphasized that this road serves as a vital economic artery for Zambia and the Southern Province, acting as the sole transportation route for coal and various mineral resources. He highlighted its significant strategic importance to the national economy and urged the company to expedite construction, maintain stringent quality control and deliver a high-quality model project.
Additionally, President Hichilema voiced concerns regarding the transportation of equipment for the Maamba coal-fired power plant. Accompanying the President during the inspection were the Minister of Information and Media, the Governor of the Southern Province, and the Permanent Secretary of the Southern Province.
